God Knows It All!
By Darwin Hunter
It is amazing how foolish we humans
are! We think that if we can fool other
men, everything is fine. So, men slink
around under the cover of darkness to do their misdeeds. They rob from others, murder their enemies, slander
someone behind their back, commit adultery on their spouses, and use profanity
when they think no one else can hear it. While it is important to set a good example
for others (I Timothy 4:12; Titus 2:7), we should not fall into
the Devil’s trap of thinking that evil is only evil if some other human knows
of it.
Sin is wrong at any time in any
context. That is true because sin is
breaking God’s law (I John. 3:4, 5:17).
What is revealed as right or wrong in
the Bible is based upon God’s holy character (Isaiah 6:3). And, God sees
everything which man does. Everything we
do is under His scrutiny, and must pass muster with Him! So, even if no one
else knows of it or has seen it, it is still sin. God is not mocked by our secretive
transgressions (Galatians 6:7-8).
Recently, it was reported in the
news that the dreaded BTK murderer (BTK stands for “Bind, Torture, Kill”) was identified and arrested in Kansas.
The man had been an “upstanding member
of the community” for decades. He worked
in a responsible position on the public payroll. He had a wife and children, and seemed to be a
good neighbor. He was a member of a
local church, and was even the “president” on one of its governing boards. BTK had toyed with the media for years,
apparently gloating in his status as a mysterious serial murderer who could
outfox the local police department, and the local media.
Even if were still at large, BTK
could not fool God. Even if his family
did not know, his co-workers, or his fellow church-members, GOD KNEW. Darkness may hide our acts from men, but it
does not hide from God (Job. 22:13).
God’s knowledge is absolute regarding
all that we do, think, or say (Psalms
139:1-12). He knows what is in our
heart (II Chronicles 6:30).
The Bible even says the hairs of our
head are numbered by God (Matthew 10:29-30). His eyes scan His creation and observe it all
(Proverbs 15:3)! Though sin has been hidden from man it can not
be hidden from God! “Be sure your sin
will find you out” (Numbers 32:23).
